Live with Henry of Big H Studios: Extraordinary Flash Photography, the Power of Self-Belief & What Nigerian Weddings Will Do to Your Creative Soul

This is one of the most special streams we have ever done. Henry of Big H Studios joins us from Nigeria as our newest Flash Masters Ambassador — and from the very first moment it is clear that this stream is going to be something different.

Henry has been shooting for 12 years. He started as a hobby photographer with no intention of going professional, turned down a well-paid nine-to-five to pursue his passion, and has built a body of work that is unlike anything else in the Flash Masters community. When Neil first came across his work after Henry shared a post about attending Christian Cardona's workshop in Manchester, his immediate reaction was: who is this?

In this stream Henry shares his images and talks through his creative process — but what makes this stream truly extraordinary is the wisdom he shares on creativity, imposter syndrome, self-belief, and what it means to build something meaningful with your photography. Henry also talks about his mission to put Nigerian photographers on the world stage and why he believes there is extraordinary talent in Nigeria that the rest of the world has not yet discovered.

By the end of this stream you will be inspired, moved, and probably googling Nigerian music. You have been warned. 🎉

The top 5 things you will learn by watching this stream:

  1. How Henry uses light to create images that are unlike anything else in wedding and portrait photography. Henry walks through his creative approach, sharing the flash setups, compositional thinking, and artistic decisions behind images that consistently stop people in their tracks.
  2. Why the energy and culture of Nigerian weddings make them one of the most extraordinary subjects to photograph. Henry shares what makes Nigerian weddings so unique: the energy, the dancing, the colour, the celebration and why shooting them has shaped his creative instincts in ways that translate to every kind of event.
  3. How to beat imposter syndrome and learn to own your work. Henry shares a genuinely powerful perspective on self-belief, including the reminder that clients hired you because they believed in you, and that you owe it to them and yourself to show up fully and confidently.
  4. Why investing in your own education, however accomplished you are, is always the right decision. The story of how Neil discovered Henry is a lesson in itself: Henry publicly shared that he was attending Christian Cardona's workshop to encourage other Nigerian photographers to invest in themselves, not knowing that Neil would see the post. His commitment to always learning is an inspiration to everyone watching.
  5. Why there is extraordinary flash photography talent in Nigeria that the world needs to see. Henry makes a passionate and compelling case for the depth of creative talent in Nigeria and shares his personal mission to bring that talent to a global stage through his work and his community.
