2 hours 15 mins 55 sec

Francisco Hernandez of FJH Photo has built a combined following of almost half a million people across Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and TikTok. In this refreshingly honest stream Francisco sits down with Neil to explain exactly how he did it, mistakes, trolls, imposter syndrome and all. You will walk away knowing how to put yourself out there online without it feeling fake, forced or terrifying. Plus, knowing that those who are at the top of their game in the land of social media aren't always confident extroverts! Shy, introverted people can still be hugely successful in the social media world as proved by both Francisco and Neil. This stream gave many members a lot of the 'warm and fuzzies!'

STILL AN INTROVERT AT ALMOST HALF A MILLION FOLLOWERS, THE HONEST STORY BEHIND FRANCISCO HERNANDEZ'S SOCIAL MEDIA GROWTH

"This LIVE is sooo useful. I'm new to this and have to force myself to make these kind of reels. I guess I'm kinda better behind the camera than in front of it. thank you for the push." Flash Masters Member, Apresh Chavda

Francisco Hernandez is a portrait and wedding photographer, educator and ambassador for brands including Godox, Viltrox, Cheetah Stand and of course, Flash Masters. He is one of the most followed photographers in the world but this stream is not about his flash technique. It is about the part most photographers find far scarier: putting themselves, not just their photos, online.

Across this stream, Francisco and Neil trace his journey from small Facebook flash groups back in 2011 to almost half a million followers today. They pull apart real reels from Francisco's own accounts to work out exactly why they performed the way they did, and Francisco opens up about a period of his own online behaviour he is not proud of, and what made him change.

The second half gets properly practical. Francisco walks through what actually happens behind the scenes once your content starts to travel, why the comments shift the further it spreads, and the approach he takes to brand partnerships that most photographers never think to try. Nothing here is theory. It is what he actually does, mistakes included.

This is essential viewing for any Flash Masters member who has ever felt too nervous to press record. Francisco is refreshingly honest about being an introvert, about years of awkward, over rehearsed videos before this ever felt natural, and about the fear of rejection that still shows up for him today. There is no gatekeeping here, just an open, sometimes uncomfortable conversation about what it actually takes.

Top 5 Things You Will Learn:

  • How to turn a genuine reaction into a scroll stopping hook. Francisco breaks down the exact moment in one of his own reels that makes people stop scrolling, and why it has almost nothing to do with the technique itself.
  • Why your best content is often your worst moment. From a flash falling on a windy day to a smashed camera accessory, Francisco shows how he turns an on set mishap into some of his best performing content.
  • The real reason negative comments tend to arrive right when you're doing well. Francisco and Neil unpack what is actually happening behind the scenes on your favourite platforms, and why it should change how you feel about a bad comment.
  • The counterintuitive place Francisco actually started when chasing his first sponsorships. It is the opposite of what most photographers try first, and it is exactly why it worked for him.
  • Francisco's simple system for handling trolls without losing your peace of mind. Built from his own journey out of being a negative commenter himself, this is the practical part that "just ignore them" leaves out.

Neil Redfern

I am a off camera flash obsessive wedding photographer based in the sunny North West of England. I shot my first wedding in 2006 and since then I have shot around 500 weddings across the UK and overseas. For the past 10 years I have also been running wedding photography workshops and in 2020 I set up my Patreon, which has now grown to a community of 250 photographers all over the world. I also love to make videos for my YouTube channel, which again is all focussed on wedding photography education and ‘How I Shot This’ off camera flash videos. I am also very proud to be an Ambassador for MagMod, Pic-Time and Studio Ninja.Myself and Helen Williams set up Flash Masters in September 2022 and I am so incredibly proud of what Flash Masters will become. A huge thank you to all of our Ambassadors, Sponsors and every single member of the community for helping to make this a reality. I am so excited to see where this journey takes us all!
